Archie Muller wins Pool Lifeguard of the year at 2024 Aquatic Industry Awards for Excellence
The Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre is celebrating a major achievement, with their much-loved lifeguard, Archie Muller, named Pool Lifeguard of the Year at the prestigious 2024 Aquatic Industry Awards for Excellence.
Hosted annually by Surf Life Saving South Australia, these awards honour the outstanding contributions of individuals and organisations that elevate the South Australian Aquatics Industry. Archie’s dedication and exemplary service were front and centre as he proudly accepted this distinguished award.
Earlier this year, Archie demonstrated remarkable situational awareness and quick action when a patron suffered a heart attack in the 25m pool. Recognising the unusual behaviour, Archie immediately initiated CPR and performed resuscitation, coordinating with his aquatics team to keep the patron stable until Emergency Services arrived. The hospital credited Archie’s swift response as a decisive factor in the patron’s full recovery.
Archie was also celebrated for his leadership, unwavering commitment to safety and proactive approach to patron engagement. His friendly, approachable manner allows him to connect with the community, educating them on safety protocols such as the Watch Around Water initiative, and enhancing overall safety awareness.
Wulanda Venue Manager, Heidi Gajic, expressed her pride in Archie’s well-deserved recognition:
“Archie is a key member of our Wulanda Aquatics Team. His high standards reflect his clear vision for pool safety, earning him respect from everyone he works with. We’re absolutely thrilled to see him recognised as Pool Lifeguard of the Year.
“Beyond his daily dedication, Archie’s quick response during an extremely challenging situation—resuscitating a patron in need—exemplifies his commitment and professionalism. We are truly proud of the impact he has made and the standards he upholds.”
Heidi concluded: “We also congratulate other Belgravia Leisure staff on their recognition as finalists in award categories on the day – De Irwin & Aleisha Pearson, plus the GOswim program at The Rex.”
The Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre is a state-of-the-art, multi-purpose facility in Mount Gambier, South Australia, offering sports, aquatic, and conference facilities to the community.
